My 7 year old son was shot down by his 1st grade teacher

The american public education system in a nutshell tho

My third grade teacher actually had a conversation with my mom that I was reading to well and told her to stop having me read at home

My first grade teacher said that it was problematic that I was reading ahead of the rest of the kids in my grade and asked my parents to stop letting me read Harry Potter.
My fourth grade teacher thought it was wrong for my dad to be teaching me complex math because it fascinated me.
My elementary school music teacher hated the way my piano teacher taught me, and how I was more advanced than many of her students, and so told me, in front of my peers and my mother, that I was not good enough to participate in the state solo festival. She would not give me the form. We had to procure it from the district instead. She also hated how I excelled at reading and playing music for the recorder, and so she refused to give me my “belts” (colored beads to signify our level) and humiliated me in front of the class repeatedly.
My eighth grade algebra teacher used to fail me on take home tests because I didn’t solve problems exactly the way she showed us in class; I used methods that we had learned for other types of problems that also applied to these. She took points off my tests because I didn’t bring a calculator even though I got 100% without it, because I was able to do it by hand. I had to call my father, who is an engineer, down to the school to shout her down and give me back my A in the class.
My 10th grade Spanish teacher yelled at me in front of the class numerous times because she didn’t like the way I took notes; she thought that since I didn’t write every word off the slide, I wasn’t getting it all down. I had to explain to her that people who have taken advanced courses, like AP or IB classes, know that in a fast-paced learning environment you need to take quick shorthand notes that contain the necessary information rather than wasting time writing every word. She almost gave me detention.
My 11th grade English teacher gave me a poor mark on my first short essay because she believed that I was looking up unnecessarily complex words in a thesaurus to try and get better marks. The phrases in question: “laced with expletives” and “bombarded”. She wouldn’t hear any defense from me.
My 11th grade history teacher failed me on an essay about the 1950s because I misread the prompt. Except the prompt wasn’t words; it was a political cartoon. One of the figures was clearly president Eisenhower, but the other I couldn’t place. My teacher would not tell us who it was. I labelled him as the governor of Little Rock Arkansas during the integration period, and wrote an essay about that subject. My teacher said that no, it was Joseph McCarthy, and that there was a small picture of the man in our textbook and therefore I should have recognized him instantly. Half the class, apparently, did not.
The American school system is not here to educate us or to encourage us to learn; it’s here to keep us in line and silent. It’s here to keep us from deviating and being our own people and forming our own ideas. Don’t let it win.

when will america learn….

We won’t learn, because our education system sucks

Instead of treating kids like machines in a factory, being created into obedient workers. It looks like in Finland they’re treated like actual humans.

it’s also because all teachers there have masters’ degrees, and teaching is seen as a prestigious profession like medicine or law.

What’s actually wrong with American schools is not that they’re not like Finnish schools.
What’s wrong with American schools is that they’re an outdated relic of the early 20th century, where the object was to train a child to have the mindset required to work in a factory job long hours of the day, as at the time that mandatory public school was instituted, that was the main expectation of children.
As the industrial age faded and the US entered the era of private sector jobs, the education system failed to reflect that change, and they’re still training us to have the mindset for an industrial job, not a job in today’s job market.
The problem with American schools is not that they’re not like Finnish schools.
The problem with American schools is that they’re preparing us for jobs that no longer exist.

That bold text.. 😔

A CROW TRIED TO GO IN OUR CLASSROOM AND HE HAD A PEN

yes hello i am here to learn geometries

That crow is more prepared than some of my students.

You’ve all just like, completely skipped over the possibility that this crow has seen people using pens in this room, found one, and is trying to return it. There’s been videos of crows picking up sweet wrappers and stuff and placing them in bins after seeing humans put their litter in bins. I really do believe that this crow is trying to return the pen and that is ADORABLE AS HELL.

THEY ARE SO SMART I LOVE THEM

Crows are thought to be self aware by some scientists. Its perfectly possible the crow wants to return the pen to humans. Knowing it belongs to humans.

Corvids. Who KNOWS. :)

Another cool crow deal: Once, when trying to assess if crows could reason and use tools, scientists had two crows who didn’t know each other each take a wire from a table (one was hooked, one was straight) and try to grab meat from a bottle with it. The crows could see each other, though they had separate bottles. Only the straight wire worked for this, so they hypothesized that if crows could reason, the second trial would have the two crows fighting over the straight wire. The second trial started and, to the surprise of the scientists, the two crows both went for the bent wire, one held it down and the other unbent it. They both got meat out of their bottles. They came to a peaceful solution without verbal communication. Crows are probably smarter than we are.

Crows are definitely smarter than humans

I can’t believe that this is stop-motion.

I CAN’T UNDERSTAND FUCKING STOP-MOTION THOSE FINGERS SHOULD FALL RIGHT OFF BUT NO THEY SUPPORT THEMSELVES BEAUTIFULLY
WHAT THE ACTUALLY FUCK STOP MOTION

The fingers are being supported by armature wire. Virtually all stop motion puppets have some variety of this going on underneath it:
Given  the proportions of Burton’s creations, the armatures underneath his puppets are probably custom-made.
What you’re also looking at is a ton of replacement animation on that teddy bear. Instead of actually tearing open the bear model, someone, or a few people, carefully crafted a handful of that specific bear at various stages of being cut open. If you look closely, the slab it’s on moves slightly, which gives itself away.
Also, Jack’s speaking is done through replacement animation.

Stop motion utterly fascinates me.

GOD BLESS YOU

THIS IS THE THING I DONT GET ABOUT STOP MOTION
YOU HAVE TO PHYSICALLY MOVE THE DOLLS WITH UR HANDS AND REPLACE THEIR FACES //HOW DO YOU KEEP THEM IN THE SAME SPOT??????//

We found a kitten on the side of the road yesterday. She looked much worse, having scabs over her one eye to the point where she couldn’t open it at all. We took her to the ASPCA, but they were full and couldn’t take any kittens, especially in her condition, they couldn’t risk the other hundred cats to get sick too. We cleaned her up there as best we could, then went off to find a different animal sanctuary. We got lost and decided to just take her home to try and give it rest before trying the next day. We took her to a local pet shop where we bathed her and the groomer said that she has an upper respiratory infection and an eye infection, who knows what else.
There’s hope though! She started walking around and ate a lot between yesterday and today. She has so much love in her. She loves cuddling with me and can’t go to sleep unless she’s on my bed. Reallllllyyyy adorable.
This is a long shot since I don’t have many followers, but I would like to set up a donation to help her. Even with working, I would not be able to help this poor kitten. I’ve called 4 vets, they all said it would be about 600 dollars in total. Please help us out, I’ve fallen in love with this kitty and I just want to see her better, no matter what.
